A lot of people think that they can’t hear symphonies in their head, just as a lot of people think they can’t “visualise”.

This is because these people expect that when you visualise, it is the same process as “looking” when it isn’t; and hearing symphonies isn’t the same process as “hearing”.

In both cases, we are dealing with energetic data that comes from a different source and uses different parts of the brain.

Here is a simple beginner’s exercise to make you more aware of how it is when you “hear things in your head”, the auditory version of visualisation.

Auditorialisation?

In a moment, close your eyes and remember what it sounded like when someone called your name. Your child, your mother, a teacher intent on punishing you or the like.

Do you remember?

Very good.

Now, hear this being called a long way away, in front and slightly off to the right.

Ok.

Now hear this being called a long way away, from behind.

Very good.

And now hear it SHOUTED right at the back of your neck!

Did you FEEL that?

Did you have a kinaesthetic response?

If you did, you have all the systems for hearing symphonies in your mind, as well.
